I live in Hilversum, a small city in the Netherlands. Close to my house there's a moor, I used to go there with my grandma when I was young. And now I still go there from time to time. I go there on walks, to think, to 'get some fresh air', to enjoy nature and, of course, because my back needs a little bit of exercise. With my back injury I can barely do any sports. I can't even go for a run, which I'd much rather do. So walking will have to do, for now.
It's Saturday night and that means 'fun time' for a lot of people. People work hard all week long to spend their hard earned money in the pub or club. They post pictures of themselves with their friends on their social media accounts to show the world how amazing their life is. Life in the modern western world is great, right? No one has to worry about their safety and can do/say whatever he or she likes. Every one is used to the comfort our modern western world has to offer.
I haven't been doing any writing the last couple of days, one of the reasons is that I don't really know what to write about. I don't do much on a daily basis, so I sometimes kinda run low on inspiration. And besides the lack of inspiration at the moment, the last 9 days, I've been playing this new video game called 'Sea of Thieves'. A Pirate's Life For Me.
We call it 'our' planet. But who are we to call it ours? As a species we got very lucky during evolution and are now intelligent enough to call this place 'Planet Earth, Our Home World'. The planet is round (sorry #flatearthers haha) and it orbits the sun. Planet Earth's distance is far enough from the sun not to burn and close enough not to freeze. Our planet is in the 'habitable zone' of our star and there's plenty of water on the planet's surface to sustain life.
All hands on deck! Raise the anchor and lower the sails, we're headed east! 'I command, my crew executes'. In order to succeed, hierarchy is needed, even for free men like us. As we exit the harbor and head east towards open waters we can see the sun setting itself up for a beautiful sunrise, truly a wonderful sight. Nothing beats a clear blue sky and a rising sun on the horizon, never gets old.
I will be fine, eventually. I've been struggling with a severe lower back injury that started roughly 2 years ago. All I can do now, is just wait and sit around and hope for better days. I've had 2 surgeries and am still recovering from the second surgery (you can read about that here: 1st blog). I have a long road ahead and patience is what I need, but hardly have..
As a kid I was not that good at making new friends and still aren't the best. Never had a lot of friends and still don't have a lot of them either. I can count my friends on one hand. Is this a bad thing? No, I don't think so. It just means that the select group of people who I see as my friends are 'loyal friends'. I don't see them too often, but when we're together it's like we see each other every day.
